Objective
-
The Mechanical Engineering Program - PEM-COPPE/UFRJ aims to form Masters and Doctors in Mechanical Engineering with advanced technical-scientific knowledge, who are capable of acting in teaching and research activities, specialized in applying advanced techniques and methods to the practice of Mechanical Engineering.
-
The possibilities of graduate studies are broad and diverse in order to attend the demands of a labor market more and more segmented, in a high level technological environment, constantly evolving.
-
The classes and the Master’s Dissertations and Doctoral Thesis offer opportunities of further development of the principles and theoretical and methodological fundamentals and appliance of advanced techniques of Mechanical Engineering.
-
The Master and Doctoral programs are structured to be concluded, by students with full dedication, in two and fours years, respectively.
Historical Aspects
-
Founded in 1965, PEM is the second graduate program created at COPPE/UFRJ, and is one of the first programs in the country in its field.
-
PEM-COPPE/UFRJ has contributed to the education of several people that have become faculty and researchers, instituting many Mechanical Engineering graduate programs across the country.
-
Since its creation, the Program offers its students a graduate educational formation highly aimed at the mastery of phenomenon fundamentals, processes and technological systems regarding Mechanical Engineering. The classes contents and themes and methodology chosen at our Master’s Dissertations and Doctoral Thesis reflect these tendencies.
Tendencies
-
Nowadays, the programmatic and thematic interests of the activities lead masters and doctors under the program towards:
-
teaching and research activities in higher education institutions;
-
research departments of companies of high technology - for example, oil and energy companies;
-
acting in companies with projects and consultancy.
-
